fruit trees [for my father]

i walk the perimeter
kneel down beside
i wander through a swarm of flies
arrive at your fruit trees
set against sky

i hold cold hands of
old wisdom soft reason
i see in grey eyes
between us our river
shed indian blood

i fear the insanity of this place
great father speaks and all comes into existence
i took an orange from your hallway
you said go ahead now
let me watch you walk away
